IFC debuted the adventure-thriller film at the Newport Beach Film Festival in October 2020 and the film was officially released in January 2021. She also can currently be seen in the film adaptation of Sarah Dessen’s best-selling novel Along for the Ride for Netflix, which debuted in May 2022. “Maid” was one of Netflix’s most streamed series in 2021. The critically acclaimed series from showrunner Molly Smith Metzler, which was named one of AFI’s Top Television Programs of the Year, is inspired by Stephanie Land’s New York Times best-selling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. Prior to that, MacDowell starred in John Wells/Luck圜hap Entertainment-produced limited series “Maid” for Netflix, opposite her real-life daughter, Margaret Qualley. The film, directed by Sarah Elizabeth Mintz, won Best Narrative Film at the Tribeca Film Festival. MacDowell plays Jane’s beleaguered mom, Ruth. The film is a coming-of age drama that follows Jane, a lonely teenager in Los Angeles, struggling to fit in at a new school after being bullied in the old one while reeling from the fallout of her parents’ recent divorce.
